Unemployment rate …

Do you know how it is calculated?  Did you know that once you no longer receive unemployment benefits you are no longer ‘counted as unemployed’?   So as millions reach the 99th week limit for unemployment….they are no longer counted in the government numbers.  They are, however, still unemployed.

Once a job is gone – a business closes, down-sizing, these jobs are not counted in the available job pool.  Look at the number of empty storefronts there are in Sierra Vista.

So less jobs, and people no longer counted as unemployed -makes the statistics unreliable.

You decide…how many people do you know who are unemployed?   The average duration nationwide is almost 41 weeks (3.5 years), yet once their benefits expire these folks are no longer ‘counted as unemployed’.

Who benefits from massaging the percentages to appear smaller?

Something to think about when you hear the ‘numbers’.

Thanks for reading,

Not only that, but small businesses and sole proprietors are not counted at all.  When those businesses close there is no record of their demise.  Pooffff --no income, no unemployment!!
